After years of hating on cooperative board games, I finally get why people love them

I was always the guy who said "why play together when we can just beat each other?" (you know, sore winner and all that). But last month my buddy brought over Pandemic Legacy and I rolled my eyes so hard I almost strained something. Three rounds in, I was actually leaning forward in my chair, arguing with my girlfriend about whether we should quarantine in Seoul or Mumbai first. The tension was real. We lost by one turn and I couldn't stop thinking about it for days. Now we're three sessions in and I'm the one suggesting we play on a Tuesday night. Has anyone else made the switch from competitive to cooperative and felt like they were betraying their former self?

Pro tip: that $50 board game organizer kit was a total waste

I got a fancy insert kit for my copy of Arkham Horror LCG last month. It was supposed to fit everything perfectly, sleeves and all. Cost me $50 and took forever to assemble. Once I crammed all the cards in, the lid bulged out and won't close right. Now I'm back to using ziploc bags like a normal person. I'd rather spend that cash on an actual expansion next time. Anyone else ditch those custom organizers for something simpler?

Unpopular opinion: Terraforming Mars beats Everdell for replayability.

I have played both of these games at least 20 times each over the last year with my game group in Austin. Everdell is gorgeous and I love the wooden pieces and the worker placement mechanic, but after about 10 plays I felt like I had seen most of the card combos. Terraforming Mars, on the other hand, has way more variety in how you can win each time. The different corporations actually change your whole strategy from the start, and I still discover new card synergies every session. We had a game last week where someone won with a plant engine that just crushed everyone else and I had never even considered that approach before. Has anyone else felt this way about a game that looks better but has less depth after many plays?
