Changed my mind on house rules after a guy at our Tuesday meetup in Fort Wayne called out my house rule
I used to think house rules were just an excuse for people who can't handle losing, and I'd gotten into it with a few folks over it. Then last Tuesday at the game night at the library on Wayne Street, a guy named Dale watched me roll three terrible turns in a row in Catan and said, "you know, we could just play to 8 points so nobody sits for an hour being sad." I argued, and he calmly asked me when was the last time a new player at our table actually had fun losing by 4 points. I didn't have an answer, and now I've got a whole note in my phone about house rules that keep people coming back instead of going home early. How do you all decide which house rules are fine and which ones wreck the game?
