Update: My best ideas come from ignoring new design sites

Everyone seems to hunt for inspo on the latest digital platforms. I think that just leads to samey, forgettable work. For the past month, I've only used public domain science textbooks from the 60s. The rigid grids and basic typeforce me to think differently.

My prof loved 60s NASA manuals for grid ideas.

Those 60s NASA manuals really were something else for grids. I read that their layout rules were all about MAXIMUM readability under stress, which is pretty cool.
