Rant: My sourdough starter went from amazing to dead in one weekend

I've been feeding this starter for about 6 months. It was doubling in 4 hours, perfect bubbles, great smell. Then I left town for 3 days and forgot to feed it before I left. Came back to a layer of brown liquid on top and no activity at all. Tried feeding it twice a day for a week now and it barely moves. Anyone else ever kill a starter this fast and manage to bring it back?

Did you try feeding it with warm water to shock it back to life?

Oh yeah that's actually a solid idea. I've heard of people doing that with finicky plants that get too cold or stressed. Just make sure the water is lukewarm not hot, you don't want to cook the roots. I'd let it sit for a bit then drain off the excess so it doesn't get waterlogged.
