My neighbor Bill said to use deck screws for framing a shed... I had to tear it all down 2 months later

So Bill's been building stuff for like 40 years right? Real handy guy. He told me deck screws were fine for the wall framing on my 8x10 shed in the backyard. I figured he knew his stuff since he built his whole garage that way. Well after a couple heavy rain storms I noticed the walls were starting to sag and pull apart. Turns out deck screws don't have the same shear strength as structural screws. I had to rip out all the framing and start over with GRK screws cost me an extra $60 and a whole weekend. Anyone else had a neighbor give you bad building advice that cost you money?

I used to be a deck screw fan myself, honestly thought they were fine for everything until I saw a buddy's shed start shifting like that, totally changed my mind on what's worth spending a little extra on.

Picked up a box of Simpson screws myself after @paige_harris saw that shed wobble, and yeah, never looking back on cheap fasteners.
