Hot take: That guy at the hardware store who told me I was screwing up my drywall was right

Was at Lowe's picking up joint compound around 7pm on a Tuesday. Older dude walks up while I'm staring at the different mud options and just goes "you're gonna use the wrong one and be back here tomorrow mad." I laughed it off but he explained how the quick-set stuff sets too fast for a beginner and the all-purpose was better for my first tape job. He was dead on. My buddy told me to just use the hot mud and I spent 4 hours fighting it. Anyone else get saved by a random stranger in an orange apron?

Had a similar thing happen when I was patching a hole in my garage ceiling. Guy at Ace saw me holding a 5-in-1 tool and asked if I had a hawk. Told me to get one, showed me how to load it. Made the whole job way less messy. Still use that thing today, best $12 I ever spent.

Did he actually offer advice or just call you out first?
