Heard a neighbor say 'they don't build houses like they used to' and it got me thinking

I was at a hardware store in Billings last weekend and overheard this older guy telling the clerk his 1978 house still has the original roof with zero leaks. It made me wonder if we really are building things worse now, or if we just remember the survivors fondly. My 2005 house already had a fascia board rot out after 12 years. Has anyone else noticed a real drop in quality on newer construction around your area?

My 2012 house had siding fail in 7 years, while my dad's 1985 place still looks perfect.

Yeah @patricia_rodriguez you're right on the money. It's like builders today cut corners to save a buck and we pay for it later. My buddy's 1990 house still has original windows that don't even fog up. Can't imagine my 2010 place lasting that long without major repairs. What's the deal with lumber quality too? Feels like everything warps after one rainy season.
