Used to panic over angry customers and refund everything, now I stand my ground more

Tbh I used to just give people their money back the second they raised their voice, but after a guy tried to return a half-eaten sandwich that he bought 3 weeks ago at a different store, I realized some people just want to bully you into free stuff. That was 6 months ago at my job in a grocery chain, now I stick to policy even if they scream. Anyone else learn to say no the hard way?

I read somewhere that once you start enforcing boundaries at work, the same people who used to walk all over you suddenly start treating you with more respect. Honestly it's wild how fast the tone shifts when you stop backing down.
