The coupon code that broke our POS system for 2 hours

Last month at our Ohio store, a customer handed me a barcode with 47 characters and said it was a prize code from a cereal box. I scanned it, the register froze mid-transaction, and we had to reboot everything while 12 people waited in line. Has anyone else had a random scan that did something totally unexpected to your system?

Man, our price checker once read a barcode as 88 cents when it was $88, chaos!
