Rant: The customer who thought I was her personal therapist

Last tuesday in Portland this lady spent 15 minutes yelling at me about a 50 cent coupon glitch, then suddenly broke down crying about her divorce. I get you're having a rough time lady, but I'm ringing up your granola bars not giving free counseling.

I saw a news article last week that said retail workers get unloaded on like therapists about 40% more often during the holidays. This lady probably saw you as a safe stranger to dump on since she didn't have to see you again. Still, you're there to scan items and answer store questions, not listen to someone's whole life story over a coupon.
