Rant: The credit card terminal at my register just died during the Friday night rush.
I had a line of eight people and had to write down every card number by hand on a notepad for over an hour while my manager tried to reboot the system, which felt like a huge security risk and made everyone even more angry.

Honestly, writing it down on a notepad seems fine as a last resort. It's not like you're posting the numbers online, you're just getting people through the line. The real risk is pretty low if you're just holding onto that paper for a few minutes.

Lost a whole client list that way once.

Remember when we all thought paper was safe? I used to keep a sticky note with passwords by my monitor, figured it was better than a file on my computer. Then our office cleaner took a photo of it. After that, I realized any list you can see, someone else can copy. It only takes a few seconds.
