My first manager told me the customer is always right and I believed her for like 3 years
After having a lady scream at me for 20 minutes over a $0.50 coupon that expired last Tuesday in Phoenix I finally learned that the real rule is the customer is usually wrong and you just gotta smile and let them think they won so has anyone else had a manager give advice that backfired totally?

That coupon thing is always a nightmare. My old boss swore up and down that the customer was always right until some guy tried to return a clearly used air mattress covered in glitter. Had to smile and give him store credit just to avoid a scene.

And then you just know that air mattress got resold to someone else. I once watched a lady try to return a half-eaten bag of dog food because her dog "changed his mind about the flavor.
