Just lost a whole Saturday because a customer insisted they had a 'secret warranty'
I work at an auto parts store in Fresno, and this guy came in absolutely convinced his car's sensor was covered by some hidden factory extension. He made me call three different dealerships and look up like fifty bulletins, which took over 4 hours. Turns out he just misread a forum post from 2018. Has anyone else had a customer waste your entire shift on a wild goose chase like that?

That's rough, but at least you got paid for those hours. I've seen guys get so stuck on an idea they can't let it go. Sometimes you just have to show them the proof so they can see it for themselves.

Did you actually get paid for those hours though? Most auto parts stores I've seen don't pay hourly for that kind of nonsense, you're on commission or flat rate. John, I've worked parts counters for 12 years and if you're on commission, getting stuck with a guy like that means you just lost money on a Saturday instead of making real sales. It's not like the dealership where you punch a clock and wait it out.

Found it helps to print out the actual bulletin and hand it to them. Something about holding the paper makes the denial harder to keep up. Usually they just leave after that.
