I finally had a customer scream at me over a 50 cent fee

Last Tuesday at the hardware store this lady went ballistic because I charged her 50 cents for a bag. Has anyone else gotten yelled at over something that small?

Oh man, I feel you on this one. Last summer I had a guy flip out on me at the grocery store because the self-checkout asked him to put his reusable bag in the bagging area before scanning his next item. Like seriously, it's a little sensor, not a personal attack. Best thing I learned is to just stay super calm and not match their energy, even say something boring like "I understand you're upset, the fee is just store policy." Usually they run out of steam when you don't fight back, and then they just huff off and you never see them again.

Right? Like the self checkout bag sensor is taking personal revenge on them or something. Next time just tell the guy the machine's on a union break, maybe he'll chill out.
