I called the "we'll call you back" thing a total lie until a clerk at a hardware store in Dayton actually did it
I have worked enough counters and phones to know that "we'll call you back" is usually just a polite way of getting you out of the store, so when a clerk at a small hardware place in Dayton told me that back in March about a part they had to order, I honestly laughed on my way out. The part was $14, not worth chasing, so I forgot about it. Eight days later my phone rang at 7:40 in the morning and it was the same guy, saying the part came in and he was holding it behind the register under my name. I almost felt bad for how I'd talked about them to my crew. The thing that got me was he wrote my name and number on an actual paper slip and clipped it to the shelf tag, not some computer system nobody checks. So now I have to ask, what's the longest gap between a promise and a callback that actually showed up for you? Because I'm still a little stunned.
