Can we talk about the guy at the counter in Omaha who counted my change back one coin at a time?
I was at a gas station off Dodge Street in Omaha about 6 months ago, grabbing a coffee before a long drive, and the guy behind the register did something I still think about. I paid with a $20 for a $4.37 total, and instead of just handing me the bills, he laid every coin on the counter one at a time and counted it out loud so I could follow along. At first I thought it was kind of slow and annoying, but then he looked up and said his last job made him short his drawer twice and he got written up for it, so now he does this every single time. Watching him be that careful over 63 cents honestly made me rethink how I handle my own mistakes at work, because I usually just rush and hope nobody notices. I work the front desk at a hotel and I started slowing down when I count a guest's cash back, and funny enough my drawer has been spot on for months. What gets me is that one little habit from a stranger stuck with me more than any training I ever sat through. Has anyone else picked up a random habit from watching a coworker or a stranger do their job? I want to hear the weird ones.
