Appreciation post: the customer who told me I was folding towels wrong after 3 years on the job

I had been folding towels the same way since day one until a lady at the Marriott front desk pointed out the hotel crest was supposed to face out, not in, and now I can't unsee all those backwards towels I've been handing out for 3 years.

My buddy Dave worked at a Gap for two years and folded jeans a certain way the whole time. A lady came in one day and asked him if he knew the fold was wrong because the tag was supposed to be tucked under. He just looked at her and said "well it works for me." She insisted he google it and he saw some video where the guy folded it different. Now he tells every new employee how he folded jeans wrong for two years. It's funny how one random customer can just wreck your whole system like that.

That whole "wrong fold" thing reminds me of something that happened at my old job. Had this guy who worked in the warehouse for like five years and he always stacked the boxes in a specific way. One day the new manager comes in and starts telling him his stacking method was "inefficient" and showed him some YouTube video of a guy in Sweden doing it different. He just shrugged and kept doing it his way for another year until he retired. Now the funny thing is, the new manager's method actually caused more boxes to fall over. So sometimes the "wrong" way that works for you might actually be better for your specific situation. Your buddy Dave probably had that fold down perfect for how he moved around the store, tag be darned.
