Update: played Stardew with the wiki open for 200 hours, then quit it cold

For my first two farms I had the wiki pulled up on a second screen the entire time, checking every fish and every villager gift. Around hour 200 I got bored and couldn't figure out why, since Stardew is supposed to be the chill game. Then I started a new save on the forest farm and made one rule: no wiki, no googling, just walk around and see what happens. Now I actually remember the game as a place instead of a checklist, and I found the secret woods on my own in fall of year 1. Does anyone else play this way, or do you keep a guide handy?
