Lost my 40 hour farm save to a power blink, but the backup folder saved me
Last Tuesday around 11pm my power flickered for maybe two seconds while I was in the middle of a big harvest day on my farm, and the whole PC shut off. When I booted back up, the save file was corrupted and the game would not load past the title screen. I sat there for a minute feeling pretty dumb because I had never turned on the cloud backup option in Steam. Turns out the game keeps its own backup files in a hidden folder, and I found one from the night before that loaded fine. I only lost about an hour of play instead of 40 hours of crops and animals. Now I want to know, do you all keep manual copies of your cozy saves, or do you trust the built in backup?
Man, that is a lucky break with the hidden folder. Here is my question though, do you actually know where that hidden folder is now, or did you just find it once and hope you never need it again? I ask because if the power blinks again you want to know the exact path without hunting around while you are stressed out. And once you find it, are you copying that folder somewhere off the PC, like a USB stick, or is it staying on the same drive that just took the hit? A backup on the same machine does not help much if the drive itself ever dies.
