The whole "contrail split in half" thing is just your eyes playing tricks on you. Wind shear at different altitudes can quickly tear a normal contrail apart, it happens all the time and there's really nothing mysterious about it. Maybe if more people understood basic meteorology, this kind of stuff wouldn't get blown out of proportion.

Yeah I remember reading somewhere that those shear layers can actually look really weird from the ground too, like the contrail just stops existing for a second then shows up again. Not saying it's aliens or anything but it does look pretty wild sometimes.
