Three years ago I watched a documentary about MKUltra and it still messes with my head

Stumbling on the old CIA torture files on Archive.org helped me put it in a box, if that makes sense. Knowing the actual declassified stuff was less dramatic than the docs made me feel better.

Three years of working in a warehouse gave me this same feeling about safety reports. The official incident files were always way less scary than the stories guys told in the break room. Someone would swear a forklift almost took off their hand, but the paperwork just said "near miss, no injury." I think our brains automatically add drama to fill in the blanks when we don't know something. Patricia's right - seeing the real, boring facts takes away that power. It's like how a creaky floorboard at night sounds like an intruder until you get up and see it's just bad wood.
