That one Wednesday last September was the worst day I've had in 5 years of urban foraging

I was out near the creek behind the old railroad tracks in Dayton, checking my usual chicken of the woods spot. Found a massive flush, maybe 8 pounds worth, but I got careless and grabbed a chunk without looking. Turns out there was a yellow jacket nest right underneath, and I got stung 6 times on my arm and neck before I could run. Then I dropped my whole harvest basket into the mud trying to swat them away. Walked back to my car with half the mushrooms ruined and my arm swelling up like a balloon. Anyone else ever get wrecked by bugs while foraging? How do you check for nests before you pick?

Dude just became the main course instead of the forager. Guess the yellow jackets wanted their protein too.

Poor guy didn't stand a chance once they locked onto him. Yellow jackets are relentless when they decide something's food. Hope he's okay or at least got out of there fast.
