My uncle swore that putting sugar in the gas tank ruins engines, but my mechanic friend said it's a total myth after I actually tried it on my old Civic last month

The mechanic showed me the fuel filter after I drove 50 miles and said there's no way sugar dissolves in gas like people think, so who's actually been right about this old urban legend all along? Anyone got a real story of this wrecking their car or is it just a tale?

Fifty miles with that stuff in the tank and it didn't even clog the filter?

Right, so I used to be one of those people that swore up and down sugar would wreck your engine. I heard it from my dad and his buddies, and it just made sense like sugar in your coffee, right? But then a buddy of mine actually tested it in his beater truck before he sold it, and the fuel filter was totally clean after 100 miles. I figured he just got lucky, but hearing your mechanic say the same thing really changed my mind. It's wild how these old stories stick around even when they don't hold up to real life.
