My old laptop died right in the middle of a deep dive on the 2001 anthrax letters

It happened last Tuesday, just as I was cross-referencing a timeline from a 2004 forum post. The screen went black and it made this awful grinding noise. I lost about three hours of open tabs and notes I hadn't saved yet. I ended up having to use my phone to finish reading, which was a huge pain. Has anyone else had tech totally fail them at the worst possible moment during a research rabbit hole?

Honestly, I used to think automatic cloud saves were just a hassle. Then my tablet froze and rebooted while I was mapping out a huge family tree with a dozen source tabs open. Lost the whole afternoon's work. Now I save everything constantly, like a nervous tick. I feel your pain about the tabs, that's the real loss.
