My buddy in Seattle broke down the whole fluoride thing for me and now I'm not sure what to think

Heard a dentist on a podcast say that the amount of fluoride in tap water is basically nothing compared to what's in toothpaste and mouthwash these days. Honestly, it made me wonder if the whole public water thing is even worth the fight anymore. Ngl, I'm still on the fence about it though.

Honestly, I gotta push back a little on that dentist's take. The fluoride in toothpaste is way more concentrated, sure, but you spit it out after brushing. The whole point of water fluoridation is that you're swallowing it, so it gets into your bloodstream and strengthens teeth from the inside out while they're still forming. Plus, tap water hits your teeth all day long in little sips, not just two minutes of brushing. Ngl, the amount might be lower, but the constant exposure is what makes it effective for the whole community, especially kids who don't always brush great.
