My 200 dollar satellite dish gave me nothing but static in Phoenix

Tbh I bought this big fancy dish setup for my cabin outside Phoenix, thinking I was onto some hidden signal thing. Set it up over a weekend, aligned it for hours using an old compass app, and got literally just static and a few weird beeps. Turns out the whole area is blocked by a mountain range and the frequencies I wanted are dead now. I learned that half the "signal maps" online are outdated or straight up fake. It made me wonder how many people are chasing this stuff with zero real testing. Has anyone else sunk money into hardware only to find the coverage was a total lie?
