Just blew $150 on a 'government-proof' signal blocker for my phone
Saw a video saying these things stop tracking, so I ordered one online. It's a little metal box you put your phone in, cost me a full $150. Used it for a week and my phone still got all my texts and calls just fine. The whole thing feels like a total scam now. Has anyone actually found a real way to stop location tracking without going off the grid?

Remember my cousin bought a "faraday cage" sleeping bag to block signals while camping, dude spent three hundred bucks and then his emergency beacon wouldn't work when he actually needed it. Honestly most of that stuff is junk science for paranoid people. You're better off just turning off location services for apps that don't need it and keeping your phone in airplane mode when you really want to disappear.

That "junk science" line isn't totally fair, mark_nguyen95. Faraday cages are real science, they're just often made badly for consumers. A proper one blocks all signals, which is why his beacon failed. The problem is a lot of those products use cheap mesh that doesn't fully seal. So it's not that the idea is fake, it's that the execution for stuff like phone pouches or that sleeping bag is usually terrible. You're right that airplane mode is the simpler fix.
