Hit $500 in grocery savings last month and it shocked me

I started using that app that shows clearance items at my local ShopRite in Newark. Last month I added up all my receipts and realized I saved exactly $527 compared to what I would have paid full price. That's basically a car payment for me. What got me was that I didn't even feel like I was clipping coupons or being cheap. I just bought what was marked down and planned my meals around it. The trick was going Tuesday mornings when they put out the new yellow stickers. Has anyone else tracked their actual savings for a full month? I'm curious if other stores around here do similar markdowns on different days.

The Tuesday morning trick works at a lot of ShopRites around here. I know the one on Springfield Ave in Newark puts out their markdowns on Wednesday afternoons, late around 3pm. I tracked my savings for three months straight with the same app and averaged $488 a month. You gotta watch for the produce markdowns too, they usually slap yellow stickers on bruised apples or slightly soft tomatoes that roast up perfect. That $527 is solid, I bet you could push it closer to $600 if you start combining the clearance stuff with the digital coupons in that same app.

Nah you're right about that, the digital coupon stacking is where the real money is. I've done the same with the produce bags there, they mark down the organic stuff with yellow stickers and then I clip the store coupon on top. Gets a little tricky though if you hit the register during rush hour, the cashiers sometimes miss scanning the clearance stickers.
