Hit $50 in free groceries this month just from store apps

Honestly I never bothered with those grocery store loyalty apps until my sister showed me her balance last month. She had like $80 saved up from just scanning her phone at checkout. I started using three different store apps here in Portland and after 4 weeks I hit $50 in rewards. That's basically a whole week of meals for free if I plan it right. I just clip the digital coupons before I shop and scan my barcode every time. The key is checking the app before you go instead of buying whatever looks good. Has anyone else had an app just randomly give you a bigger reward than expected?

Yeah Fred Meyer's app randomly gave me $10 off a $50 purchase last week with no warning. I had the app open to clip a coupon for bread and a popup just appeared saying congratulations. That was on top of my normal digital coupon savings. The other day I noticed Safeway's app has these personalized offers based on what you buy most. Mine keeps offering me discounts on kombucha and avocados which is basically my entire diet so it works out. I think they track your buying habits and try to push stuff you already get.

Disagree with @paul_lane80, that "random" popup is them tracking you and normalizing it.
