Dollar menu showdown: Taco Bell vs. McDonald's after my paycheck vanished

Last Friday my direct deposit got messed up and I had $4.12 to my name for dinner (the bank fixed it Monday, but that night was rough). I stood in the parking lot of my local strip mall in Columbus trying to decide between the Taco Bell value cravings box at $5.99 (over budget, I know) or grabbing two McDoubles off the $1.99 each menu. I went with the two McDoubles plus a free water cup, and honestly they hit the spot but I was still hungry like 90 minutes later, so I ended up eating a can of beans I had at home. Has anyone else had to choose between two cheap options and regretted it? What's the best sub-$5 combo that actually fills you up? Asking for next time my payroll screws me over.
