My band saw decided to retire mid-pork loin on Friday

The blade snapped and the motor started making a sound like a dying goose, so I had to finish the whole 15-pound cut by hand with a boning knife. Anyone have a good source for a reliable replacement motor, or is it time to just upgrade the whole unit?

The 1.5 HP motor on my old Delta crapped out about two years ago during a brisket trim. I spent a weekend calling around and found a replacement motor from a local electric motor shop that rebuilt small motors for HVAC stuff. Cost me 90 bucks and it bolted right up. It ran quieter than the original and lasted until I sold the saw last spring. But if your whole unit is older than 10 years, I'd just swap it for a new saw. The hassle of tracking down parts and hoping the frame isn't warped isn't worth it for an older machine. I ended up with a new Grizzly this time and it's been solid so far.

Honestly, that sounds like a sign to treat yourself to a whole new saw.

Treat yourself" is how my last saw project turned into a whole new shed.
