TIL you're supposed to shuffle deck builders face down or you ruin the game balance

I was three rounds into Dominion at my buddy's place last Friday when he pointed out I've been shuffling my hand face up for months, and now I realize why I kept winning with the same 5 cards every time.

Is there anything in life we're all supposed to do a certain way but nobody tells you until you've been messing it up for months? Feels like half of being an adult is just finding out you've been doing basic stuff wrong the whole time.

Gas stove burner covers. I swear @evan_anderson didn't know for like six months that you're supposed to take those metal rings off and clean under them. Just thought the little blue flames looked funny sometimes. Pulled one off to wipe a spill and found a solid half-inch of burned-on pasta sauce crust. Felt like an idiot for all those times I just wiped the top and called it clean.
