Picked the faster game over the big epic, now I regret it every Sunday

Our group had a 6 hour slot open last weekend and I had to choose between starting Gloomhaven or busting out a quick 90 minute round of Cascadia. I went with the short option because two people had to leave early, but then everyone stuck around anyway and we just sat there scrolling phones. Now the guy who brought Gloomhaven is saying he'll never haul that heavy box again, and I think I burned the group's good will. Has anyone else thrown away a rare long session on a safe pick and then had the momentum die for weeks?
