My group's 3-hour games turned into 45-minute slogs, was it the app or the players?

Six months ago we could barely finish a heavy euro in an evening, now we're flying through the same ones with a scoring app on my phone. Is the convenience actually killing the table talk and trades, or did we just get faster as a group? Has anyone else seen this shift and do you prefer the old pace?

Did your group switch to the app around the same time you all got more used to the games? I've seen the same thing happen with my crew, and I honestly think it's a mix of both. The app removes the fiddly parts, so there's less waiting and checking, but it also quietly kills the natural pauses where deals and side chatter used to happen. I miss the old pace sometimes, especially the funny arguments about who forgot to move a cube. But I also don't want to go back to three hours of doing math in my head.
