My game group's one comment about rulebooks changed how I teach everything
Last month at our Tuesday meetup in Portland, someone said my rule explanations were too long and boring. They told me to stop reading the book word for word and just show the goal first. Now I set up a demo turn before anyone touches a piece, then answer questions as they come. It cut our setup and teaching time from 45 minutes to maybe 15 with a medium-weight game. I also started writing quick reference cards with just icons and objective steps. Has anyone else had to rebuild their teaching style after feedback like that?

The rules are the whole point, skipping them just makes it your game...
