My game group fell apart over a single rule in Terraforming Mars

We were three hours into a game last Thursday when a debate about the 'Standard Project' action turned into a full-blown argument. Now two people won't talk to each other, and our regular Tuesday night is cancelled. How do you handle a rules dispute that gets this personal?

Bring in a neutral third party to read the rule.

Full-blown argument" over a board game rule? Sounds like there were bigger issues already there.

Maybe the problem is that nobody was really having fun even before the argument... sometimes a game session just goes sour for a while and the rule dispute is just the breaking point. Could be worth checking if the group actually enjoys the same style of play or if they've been forcing it for weeks. If the core issue is people being bored or frustrated, fixing the rule won't fix the group.
