My game group fell apart over a single rule in Terraforming Mars

We were three hours into a game last Thursday when a debate about the 'Standard Project' action turned into a full-blown argument. Now two people won't talk to each other, and our regular Tuesday night is cancelled. How do you handle a rules dispute that gets this personal?
