My buddy's "always play the thief" advice finally clicked

My friend Dan from the Tulsa game group kept telling me to play the thief class in every campaign, said it forces you to think different. I ignored him for like 3 years, always picked the fighter or wizard. Last month I finally tried a halfling thief in a Gloomhaven run and suddenly I was the one setting up all the big moves instead of just swinging. Has anyone else had a friend's weird class advice turn out to be exactly right?

Dan from Tulsa gave me the same advice back in our Pathfinder days, told me thief teaches you patience more than anything. I fought it for two whole campaigns, then ran a rogue in a sci-fi tabletop and suddenly I was the one scouting every room and setting ambushes. It's wild how that one class change flips your whole brain, man, I really get where you're coming from.
