Had to pick between Ticket to Ride and Catan for game night last Friday

I went with Ticket to Ride cause my group gets too competitive over Catan. Bad move - two people left after someone blocked their route to Seattle. Now my living room feels awkward. Anyone else have a choice that backfired?

I've been there, man. My group had a similar blowup over Catan when someone pulled a sneaky longest road move right at the end. Next game night I switched to just cooperative games for a few weeks. Pandemic Legacy actually saved us. Everyone worked together instead of fighting each other. After about a month we eased back into competitive games but set some ground rules first. Now we do a quick check before game night - everyone picks from a shortlist of games so nobody feels trapped.

...and people actually left over a blocked route to Seattle? That seems so extreme to me. I mean, I get that Ticket to Ride can get competitive, but walking out over a train route feels like a lot. Usually in my group we just groan and then try to find a workaround, maybe plot revenge for the next round. I guess some folks just take their strategies more personally than others. Sorry your game night got derailed like that, that's really rough.
