Had to decide between a used copy of the 1st edition Galaxy Trucker or the new edition for twice the price...

I went with the beat up 1st edition from a guy on Craigslist in Dayton for 30 bucks and the cardboard tokens are stained but honestly it plays just fine and I saved 40 dollars, has anyone else taken the older version over a shiny new box and regretted it down the line?

Oh man, I totally get that. I grabbed a used copy of Catan from 2009 at a thrift store and the board is all bent but we've played it like 50 times and it still works fine, never once wished I'd paid full price for a fresh one.

Never once wished I'd paid full price for a fresh one" - that's exactly how I feel. I picked up a copy of Ticket to Ride at a garage sale for five bucks, and the box was held together with tape and a couple cards were missing. We just used a playing card as a stand-in for the missing route cards, and honestly it's been the best investment I ever made in a game. There's something special about a game that's been played hard by someone else before you, it feels like it has a history of its own. I still haven't bought a single new board game since that day.
