Can we talk about how I used to organize my games by color but now I sort them by player count after a huge game night fail

I used to just line up my shelves by box color because it looked nice on Instagram, but after a big party where everyone grabbed at random and nobody could find a 4-player game, I switched to sorting by player count and it saved the whole night has anyone else made a similar switch?

Why do we always organize for looks first and function second?

Three weeks ago I finally gave up on my rainbow shelf after I spent 20 minutes digging for Tiny Towns while six friends just stood there. @diana_park you're totally right, we get caught up in the aesthetic and forget the whole point is actually playing with people. I have a small apartment so I had to get creative, I ended up using little sticky labels on the spine of each box that say things like "2p" or "3-5p" so the colors still look good from the front. It is honestly such a relief to walk up to the shelf, see the tag, and grab the right thing in 2 seconds flat. My group used to just stare at the shelves and then grab whatever looked interesting, now we actually get a game picked out and set up before anyone loses interest.
