Warning: I chose a closed adoption and it was the right call for me

I was 19 in Boise and had to pick between an open adoption with visits or a fully closed one. Everyone in my support group said open was the only kind way to go, but I knew I couldn't handle updates. I went with the closed option through an agency, and it let me start over without the constant reminder. Has anyone else gone against the grain and picked a closed adoption?

My cousin in Spokane did a closed adoption 8 years ago and it was the right choice for her mental health. The pressure to do open adoptions is huge, but sometimes a clean break is what the birth parent needs to heal. It doesn't make your choice less kind, it just means you knew your own limits. Your decision to protect your peace is totally valid.

Closed was the only way I could move forward.
