Used to write the whole story out, now I just bullet point the facts

Back when I first told my daughter's birth mom story at a support group, I'd ramble for 20 minutes trying to get every detail right, and people would get lost. Last month at the Tuesday meeting in Tacoma, I tried just listing the key dates and feelings on an index card, like 'placement at 3 days, saw her at 2 months, first call at 1 year'. It came out way clearer and someone actually asked me a follow-up about how I handled the first birthday visit. Has anyone else found that shorter updates to family or case workers feel less heavy than the long version?

Honestly, that part about switching from rambling to bullet points on an index card hit me. I did the same thing with my own family, and it really does take the weight off, doesn't it? The long version always felt like I had to relive every single moment, but the short facts let people actually breathe and ask what they needed to. I’m glad someone followed up with a real question, that’s the whole point of sharing, I think. Tbh, shorter updates feel less like a test and more like a door opening.
