Took me 6 months to get a copy of my birth mom's medical history from the state.

I finally got around to requesting my birth mom's medical records from the county clerk last January. They said it would be a quick 4-6 week wait for the paperwork. Fast forward to July and I was still calling them every two weeks with no real answers. Turns out the file had been misfiled in a different department's database the whole time. I ended up having to drive 2 hours to their main office just to get someone to physically look for it. Has anyone else had to fight a government office this hard for something that should be straightforward?

Oh man, I gotta push back a little here. I've had to track down birth certificates and old tax forms a few times and yeah it can be a hassle but it's usually not straight up impossible. Like last year I needed a copy of my marriage license from 15 years ago and it took maybe two phone calls and a week of waiting. Your mileage may vary though depending on what state or county you're dealing with. Some places have their act together online and some are still using fax machines from 1995.
