The home study reference check cost me 3 extra months

I thought my home study was done after the social worker left. Then a former coworker they called took 6 weeks to return the phone call. She moved to Ohio and ignored every voicemail until I tracked her down on Facebook. Total wait for approval stretched from 8 weeks to 5 months. Anyone else have a reference who nearly tanked the whole timeline?
