That support group I rolled my eyes at actually saved me after my first reunion

After my son reached out at 22, I thought I had it all figured out. Didn't need any help. Two months later I was crying in my car at a rest stop off I-94. A friend from church dragged me to a birth mother circle at the community center. Walked in thinking it'd be a bunch of sob stories. But one woman there had been through reunion 8 years ago, and she told me exactly why my kid might go quiet for weeks after we first met. She was right. Happened 3 days later. Has anyone else had a reunion go totally different than you expected?

Oh man, that hit way too close to home lol. What helped me was literally pulling over, letting the ugly cry happen for like 5 minutes, then splashing cold water on my face and taking a few deep breaths before getting back on the road. It's wild how just letting it out for a bit makes the rest of the drive way more manageable.
