Talked to my mom yesterday and she said something about my birth mom that hit weird
So I was visiting my mom for dinner last night and she just casually mentioned that she thinks about my birth mom every time I laugh. She said my laugh is exactly like hers apparently. I never knew she even met her, turns out they talked on the phone twice back when the adoption was happening 28 years ago in Portland. My mom said my birth mom was really young and scared but had this big loud laugh that put everyone at ease. It made me realize I never really pictured her as a real person with a personality, you know? Ive been trying to track down more info about her for years but the agency is closed now. Has anyone else had a parent tell them something surprising about their birth parent that changed how you think about them? I want to know if this is common or just my mom being weirdly sentimental.

Funny how strangers can leave echoes in our lives.

Portland adoption agency records are a nightmare to dig up now. My buddy spent two years tracking his birth mom through old county clerk files. @emma_hart is right about echoes. Your mom hearing her laugh in you is deep. That's a real connection most adoptees never get.
