Rant: The difference in my son's letters before and after his 12th birthday
For years, the letters from his family were just holiday cards with a photo... generic stuff. After he turned 12 last fall, he started sending his own notes. Got one last week that said, 'I play first base now.' It's a small thing, but seeing his own handwriting and his own thoughts... it hit different. Did anyone else have contact change when their kid became a teenager?

Notice how the handwriting itself tells the story. My daughter's letters went from those big, round, careful kid letters to this faster, slanted script. You can see her hand trying to keep up with her thoughts. That messy change in the actual writing feels more real than any posed photo card. It's proof of a mind starting to run on its own.

Ever think handwriting was just about neatness? You just changed my whole view on that.
