PSA: I thought I was being a good birth mom by giving my daughter 1 update a year, then her mom sent me a message that made me sick
For 4 birthdays I sent a card and a photo and thought that was enough contact. Then my daughter's mom told me she had been asking why I didn't want to know her since she was 7. Has anyone else realized they were holding back on updates thinking they were being respectful when it just looked like distance?

Her daughter was 7 when she started asking that? That means for years this little girl thought her birth mom just didn't care enough to check in. Four cards in four years sounds like a lot until you picture a kid waiting by the mailbox the other 361 days. I can't imagine getting that message from her mom and having to sit with it. Did you ever find out what the mom said to her when she asked?
