Paid $900 for a lawyer to help with my open adoption paperwork and I still don't know if it was worth it
When I placed my daughter two years ago, the agency told me I could handle the legal side on my own to save money. I ended up hiring a family lawyer in Columbus for around $900 to review the consent forms and make sure I understood what I was signing. She caught one clause about visitation that was way vaguer than what my daughter's parents and I had talked about in person, so we got it rewritten. I keep going back and forth on whether that money was a lifesaver or a waste, since the agency swore their standard forms were fine. Did any of you pay for your own legal help, or did you just trust what the agency handed you?
