Open adoption agreements are basically just a wishlist, not a contract

I spent 2 years thinking my daughter's birth mom and I had a solid plan for visits twice a year, but after she moved to Nevada last summer without telling me, I learned the hard way that none of it is legally enforceable. Has anyone else had their semi-open agreement fall apart after a move?

Nevada? That's a 12 hour drive. Legally zero recourse.

I mean to play devil's advocate here but is it really that big of a deal? She moved to Nevada, okay so you have to drive or fly if you want to see them. Lots of divorced parents deal with way more distance than that and they figure it out. The open agreement was never about being a legal contract, it was about keeping a connection going. If she really wanted to cut you off she'd have just stopped answering your calls or blocked you on social media. Plus moving across state lines doesn't mean the agreement is dead forever, it just means you gotta adjust your expectations. Maybe look into video calls or planning a visit around a holiday instead of assuming the worst.
